Wayfinding with a Splash of Colour in Yio Chu Kang

In Yio Chu Kang, vibrant wayfinding murals and new directional signs are making it easier for residents to find their way home.

Introduced across all residential blocks as part of Ang Mo Kio Town Council’s efforts to build a more dementia-friendly and accessible neighbourhood, these murals are painted on pillars at the void decks, pointing the way to nearby MRT stations, schools, and neighbouring blocks.

Each mural incorporates recognisable cues such as large block numbers, bold colours, and familiar fruit-themed visuals. These consistent and easily identifiable features help residents, especially seniors, caregivers, and persons with dementia move through their neighbourhood with greater confidence.

Completed and Ongoing Works

All blocks across Yio Chu Kang now feature fixed colour codes and fruit themes, making it easier for residents to identify their location and find their way around.

The wayfinding murals and directional signs at Yio Chu Kang build upon the earlier “Murals Breathing Life into Our Heritage” initiative launched across Ang Mo Kio. These murals were deployed with dementia-friendly principles in mind: simple and iconic visuals, strategic placement, and a focus on community engagement.

Whether you are returning from the market, guiding a loved one home, or simply enjoying a stroll, the colourful murals and clear directional signage reflect a deeper goal: to create a neighbourhood where everyone feels supported, safe, and seen.

在杨厝港，每一座组屋楼下的柱子上都画上了色彩鲜艳的水果主题壁画，营造一个失智友善、方便生活、包容共融的社区。壁画上清楚显示组屋大牌号码、一目了然的图案及明确的指示，引导居民前往附近的地标。这个计划延续了早前的社区壁画活动，不仅帮助大家更容易辨认方向，也提升了社区的安全感和亲切感，进一步增强居民的归属感。

Yio Chu Kang kini menempatkan mural penunjuk arah bertema buah-buahan dalam warna khas di semua blok penduduk, bagi memastikan kawasan kejiranan yang lebih mesra demensia, mudah diakses, dan inklusif. Mural dicat pada tiang dek kosong, dan memaparkan nombor blok yang besar, ikon yang jelas dan penunjuk arah ke tempat berdekatan.
