From One Home to Another
Nestled at the heart of Teck Ghee, a new store is giving second chances—not just to pre-loved items, but also to communities in need. Opened in April 2025, Re:Nue @ Ang Mo Kio is The Salvation Army’s newest retail initiative with a bold and meaningful motto: “Give, Thrift. Uplift.” Located at Blk 421 Ang Mo Kio Ave 10, this vibrant retail space invites residents to shop sustainably, donate generously, and support vulnerable groups—all in one visit.
A Fresh Identity with a Deeper Mission
Re:Nue represents the evolution of The Salvation Army’s longstanding thrift operations. The name itself carries a powerful message: “Re” stands for renewing, repurposing, and reusing, while “Nue” symbolises a fresh start—offering new life to donated goods. As shared by Mr Chris McPherson, Managing Director of Re:Nue, Re:Nue embodies the heart of the organisation’s work: “Our core is still about collecting donated items, sorting them, and giving them another purpose. But we also wanted a refreshed identity that speaks to today’s more conscious shoppers.” The photo below shows Mr Chris standing beside shop staff, Syafiqah.
Affordable Finds, With a Purpose
The store’s layout is sleek and welcoming, filled with carefully curated racks of fashion apparel, bags, shoes, accessories, and even electrical appliances. Whether you’re looking for a hidden gem or a wardrobe update on a budget, the selections are abundant—and constantly refreshed with new arrivals. Everything here is priced affordably, but the real value lies in where your money goes.
Proceeds from Re:Nue support beneficiaries of The Salvation Army Singapore’s four key social programmes: empowering the elderly, caring for children and youth, assisting migrant workers, and providing prison support services. These initiatives are dedicated to meeting the needs of vulnerable individuals in the community, regardless of background or circumstance. “Our shoppers are not just buying a shirt or a toaster—they’re helping someone rebuild their life,” said Chris.
Give with Intention: What You Can Donate
Residents who wish to be part of this cycle of giving can also donate their items directly in-store. Accepted items include clean, usable clothing, shoes, bags, household goods, and IT accessories. Chris emphasised the golden rule: “If you would still use the item yourself, it’s good enough to donate.” While furniture is not accepted at this outlet, there are other Salvation Army locations equipped to handle such donations. Plans are also underway to introduce public drop-off bins around Ang Mo Kio to make giving even more convenient.
Volunteer and Be Part of the Change
Beyond shopping and donating, Re:Nue also welcomes residents who wish to give their time. The Salvation Army has long relied on the support of volunteers, and Re:Nue is no exception. “Volunteering is a great way to connect with the community and make a tangible difference,” Chris noted. Interested individuals can register their interest directly through the The Salvation Army website.
