Residents from Ang Mo Kio-Hougang gathered at the communal hall between Blocks 604 and 605 on 23 November 2025 to mark the completion of the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP) for Blocks 608 to 615 along Hougang Avenues 4 and 8. The occasion brought together long-time neighbours, young families, and seniors, all keen to see how their surroundings had been transformed.

MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC (Ang Mo Kio-Hougang), Mr Darryl David joined residents at the celebration, where he activated a wall-printing machine to complete a new mural that showcases the improvements delivered under the NRP. This technology-driven approach is a first for a town council, replacing the traditional method of mural painting with digital precision. The printed mural now serves as a visual record of the upgrades and a symbol of how the estate is embracing new ideas to improve community spaces.

Many residents said the enhancements have made daily routines easier and more enjoyable.
Ms Vikneshwan, who lives at Block 615 Hougang Avenue 8, said
“We are very happy to see the facilities that have been developed for the area. In the past, there was no playground, so we needed to walk for 10 minutes to reach the nearest one. But now, there is a new playground right below our house. We are very happy to see the new playground now.”

For others, the upgrades solved long-standing practical challenges.
Mdm Ong from Block 611 Hougang Avenue 8 shared:
“This new sheltered linkway has allowed me to walk from my house to the bus stop without being affected by the rain anymore.”

The NRP works introduced a wide range of improvements, including sheltered linkways and drop-off points, barrier-free access ramps, new and upgraded playgrounds and fitness corners, refreshed seating areas, improved lift lobbies, and the replacement of trees. Residents exploring the area after the event said the changes have made their daily journeys smoother and their neighbourhood more welcoming.
With the works completed, residents are encouraged to make full use of the new and improved facilities, whether it is children playing at the upgraded playgrounds, seniors strolling under the covered linkways, or families relaxing at the new seating corners.
