A Familiar Face in Our Neighbourhood

As the Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC serving Buangkok–Fernvale South, Mr Victor Lye is a regular sight on the ground, not just listening to residents, but often leading by example. Whether it’s picking up litter, educating the public on fire safety, or checking in on estate matters with the Town Council staff, Mr Lye walks the talk.

His frequent walkabouts are filled with familiar scenes: children laughing at playgrounds, families enjoying a meal, bird enthusiasts gathered with binoculars, and residents grocery shopping in the heartlands. These daily interactions strengthen his commitment to make Buangkok-Fernvale South a cleaner, safer, and more connected neighbourhood.

Working Closely with the Ang Mo Kio Town Council

Municipal issues are a top priority for Mr Lye. He works hand-in-hand with the Ang Mo Kio Town Council to tackle challenges such as:

• Littering of cigarette butts — which can pose serious fire risks.
• Obstructions at staircases and common corridors — such as bicycles and bulky items that may block emergency access.
• Maintenance of shared spaces — ensuring high touchpoints such as walkways, bins, and lifts are safe and clean.

Mr Lye also pays special attention to the well-being of our conservancy workers, often seen offering words of encouragement and advocating for shared responsibility among residents to keep the estate in good condition.

Promoting Civic Responsibility and Good Habits

Educating residents on “right and good habits” is one of Mr Lye’s ongoing efforts. Through social media posts and active role-modelling, he reminds everyone that simple acts such as disposing of waste properly, keeping communal spaces clear, and being considerate neighbours go a long way in building a gracious community.

“I believe in doing, not just saying,” Mr Lye shares. “When residents see us picking up trash or clearing a cluttered corner, it sends a clear message that we all have a role to play.”

Stronger Bonds Through Community Activities

Beyond municipal matters, Mr Lye is keen to foster deeper connections among residents. He has expressed interest in organising more community-based events, such as outdoor movie screenings, neighbourhood busking sessions and weekend family bonding activities.

“If you have ideas and suggestions, I’d love to hear from you,” he adds. “Together, we can shape the kind of neighbourhood we want to live in.”

Improving Connectivity for All

Connectivity is also on the agenda. Mr Lye is heartened by the progress made in transport improvements, including the launch of the first 2 of 25 third-generation two-car Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) for the Sengkang–Punggol LRT line, which began passenger service on 15 July 2025.

This upgrade will ease commuting pressures and improve the daily travel experience for residents. More new LRVs will be introduced progressively over the coming months.
